Homework
Homework at Langley is designed to deepen, develop and extend students’ understanding of the learning they have completed in lessons. It also helps students develop the independence, resilience and study habits they need to succeed.
What can homework include?
Homework may include:
- Completing tasks started in lessons
- Reviewing previous learning
- Research in preparation for future learning
- Practising examination-style questions
- Learning and memorising key vocabulary, facts or concepts
- Independent reading
- Revision
Students will always have a minimum of two school days to complete homework. We appreciate parents and carers supporting students to complete homework conscientiously, in an appropriate environment and by the required deadline.
Homework will be set on Arbor, here you will also be able to view a student’s timetable, attendance, achievement / behaviour points and detentions. It is vital that parents login to Arbor at the start of each half term as a minimum, and we would recommend that it is done weekly.

How will I know what homework has been set?
Homework is set online through Arbor. Parents and carers can use this system to view homework alongside other information about their child’s school life.
When starting at Langley, parents and students will be sent guidance on how to download and use Arbor.
Independent Study
Homework is only one part of independent learning. Students are also expected to develop their ability to study independently through activities such as reading, revision, practising key skills and reviewing previous learning.
Teacher-set homework is marked in line with the school’s Feedback Policy, while self-directed study isn’t routinely marked, although teachers may ask to see evidence where appropriate.
